The Mothman is a legendary winged creature, reportedly 7 feet tall with glowing red eyes, that terrorized Point Pleasant, West Virginia, from November 1966 to December 1967. Often viewed as a harbinger of doom, sightings stopped after the 1967 Silver Bridge collapse. Sightings began with gravediggers in Clendenin, then expanded to two couples reporting a “man-sized bird creature” chasing their car at high speeds near a, TNT area munitions dump north of Point Pleasant. The creature is believed to be an omen of tragedy, specifically connected to the collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967, which killed 46 people.
