According to the Alien Interview book based on the transcripts of Matilda O'Donnell MacElroy, the alien entity named Airl explains that an "IS-BE" is an immortal, spiritual being. Airl states that this is the true nature of all conscious beings, including humans, who are trapped in physical bodies on Earth. An IS-BE is a "spiritual being" that is immortal, having no beginning and no end. They are the creators of all space, time, matter, and energy. The term is a play on words, representing the ability to be and to do, or simply is and be. Airl describes herself—and humans—as IS-BEs, not as biological organisms. She explains that she is a "non-biological intelligence" occupying a temporary, doll-like robotic body that she can leave at will, whereas humans are trapped in organic bodies. Airl claims that Earth is a "prison planet" managed by an "Old Kingdom" or similar controlling force. When an IS-BE's human body dies, the being leaves the body but is immediately captured by an "electronic force screen" or "force shield" that surrounds Earth. The IS-BE is then subjected to "electro-shock therapy" designed to erase memories and personality, which creates an endless, forced cycle of reincarnation. Airl claims that humans are actually "Lost Battalion" beings—outcasts, criminals, artists, or undesirables—from other parts of the universe who were trapped on Earth and had their identities and powers erased. The ultimate goal for an IS-BE in this context is to recover their memory, regain their power, and escape the cycle of the "Old Kingdom".
